PRINCESS ANNE — Snow Hill High School put together a dominant performance Friday night, defeating Washington High School 36-0 behind opportunistic defense, a strong ground attack, and solid special teams play.
Despite the final score, Washington came out aggressively on its opening drive. Facing a crucial 4th-and-1, running back Kevin Jackson powered his way across the line to gain the first down and set an early physical tone for the Jaguars. Washington leaned heavily on its rushing attack throughout the night, keeping the ball on the ground with limited passing attempts.
The game began to swing late in the first quarter. With just over three minutes remaining, Snow Hill’s defense forced a safety to put the Eagles on the board. On the ensuing kickoff, Mekhi Waters electrified the visiting crowd with a touchdown return, and kicker Caden Phillips added the extra point to extend the lead.
Washington appeared rattled on its next return, fumbling the kickoff, though Jacob Smith was able to recover the loose ball and prevent another turnover.
Later in the quarter, disaster struck again for the Jaguars when a mishandled snap on fourth down gave Snow Hill excellent field position. The Eagles quickly capitalized, punching in another touchdown and converting the extra point to take a 16-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Snow Hill continued to control the game in the second quarter. Midway through the period, the Eagles found the end zone once again and added another point after the score. By halftime, Snow Hill had built a commanding 23-0 advantage.
The Eagles kept their foot on the gas in the third quarter. As the period wound down, Snow Hill added another touchdown but was unable to convert the two-point attempt, making the score 29-0 heading into the final quarter.
Any hopes of a Washington comeback were put to rest in the fourth. Snow Hill capped off its impressive night with another rushing touchdown, and Phillips once again connected on the extra point to bring the score to its final margin of 36-0.
Snow Hill’s defense set the tone all evening, turning field position and special teams opportunities into points, while Washington battled hard behind the running of Jackson but struggled to sustain drives against a relentless Eagles defense.
