SALISBURY – East Wicomico Little League is set to receive a major boost after Julie Giordano, Wicomico County Executive, announced that the Maryland Board of Public Works has approved an additional $247,500 in state funding for improvements to the league’s facilities. The funding was approved during the board’s Oct. 7 meeting through Maryland’s Program Open Space Local Share program.

The funding will support a variety of projects aimed at enhancing the experience for players, families, and visitors at the East Wicomico Little League complex. Planned improvements include new fencing, facility upgrades, restroom and concession stand renovations, ballfield improvements, updated signage, and landscaping enhancements.

Giordano said the investment represents a commitment to both local youth and the broader community.

“This is another great investment in our community and, most importantly, in our children,” Giordano said. “Youth sports play an important role in bringing families together, teaching teamwork, and giving our children opportunities to grow and succeed.”

County officials say the upgrades will help ensure the facility remains a welcoming venue for young athletes while providing improved amenities for parents, volunteers, and spectators.

The award reflects Wicomico County’s ongoing efforts to secure outside funding for projects that improve recreational opportunities and community infrastructure. Giordano noted that pursuing state and federal grants has been a priority for her administration as a way to enhance local facilities while minimizing the burden on county taxpayers.

“Whether it’s our parks, recreational facilities, schools, or infrastructure, these investments are about improving the quality of life for the people who call Wicomico County home,” Giordano said.

With the newly approved funding in place, East Wicomico Little League is expected to move forward with the planned enhancements, providing upgraded facilities that will benefit generations of local players and families for years to come.
