Crabbers Roll Past Washington 8-0 on Senior Night

CRISFIELD — Senior Night is always about more than the final score. It’s a chance to recognize the players who have dedicated years to a program and one final opportunity to compete in front of the home crowd. On Wednesday evening, the Crisfield High School Crabbers made sure the celebration would be one to remember, defeating the Washington High School Jaguars 8-0 in a mercy-rule shortened contest.

The Jaguars came out aggressively in the opening minutes, looking to spoil the festivities. Just two minutes into the match, Washington generated an early scoring threat, but Crisfield goalkeeper Carter Marsh (000 was there to deny the opportunity and keep the game scoreless.

For much of the first half, both teams battled for possession in a physical back-and-forth contest. Neither side could find the breakthrough until the 25-minute mark, when Connor Haynie (20) drove through the defense and put the Crabbers on the board for a 1-0 advantage.

Once the first goal arrived, the momentum shifted firmly toward the home side.

With 11:43 remaining in the half, Cooper Thomas (2) charged the goal and doubled Crisfield’s lead. Less than a minute later, at the 10:50 mark, Aiden Martin (7) followed up with another score to make it 3-0. Crisfield continued to press the attack, and at 9:52, Cooper tapped in his second goal of the evening, giving the Crabbers a commanding 4-0 lead heading into halftime.

The second half picked up right where the first left off.

Just five minutes after the restart, Cooper Thomas (2) completed another scoring run off an assist from Aiden Martin, stretching the lead to 5-0. A few minutes later, Martin showcased his speed and skill with a powerful run from midfield before finding the back of the net at the 32:40 mark.

Connor Haynie (20) added his second goal of the night about ten minutes into the half, and he completed the hat trick nine minutes later, pushing the lead to 8-0.

With the Crabbers ahead by eight goals, the contest ended early under the mercy rule with approximately 20 minutes remaining.

The victory was a fitting conclusion to Senior Night, as Crisfield’s veterans were honored before helping lead the team to one of its most decisive performances of the season. Strong defensive play, highlighted by Carter Marsh’s early save, and a balanced offensive attack from Haynie, Martin, and Cooper proved too much for the Jaguars to overcome.
